Hello there🙌 Before we start the interview, could you tell us about Eddy at Handys!
Hello. I'm Eddy from the Handys PD team. I discover new sites and create structures that allow the company to expand stably. In simple terms, I review 'where and how Handys can grow in the future,' and work with partners like developers and contractors to establish the conditions for operating together.
My day starts by checking news and market data. External factors like interest rates, real estate, and policy changes become direct criteria for 'which sites to review.' By understanding these flows and contexts, I can make decisions based on evidence about when and where Handys can create opportunities. After that, I look at the company's operational indicators and understand the performance and revenue structure of each site. By doing this, I can proactively prepare for inquiries coming in from outside or anticipated issues.
Winning a new site isn't simply about securing a building. It determines both the company's scalability and profit structure at the same time. That's why I move between the market and the company, maintaining a balanced perspective, and persistently review whether this site will truly benefit Handys until the very end.
What are the attractions and the weight of acquisition work?
As I mentioned earlier, acquisition work carries great responsibility because every process is directly tied to the company's bottom line. There are many factors to consider—like market conditions and asset structures—and even small decisions lead to actual operational results, so a careful approach is needed at every moment.
The density of accomplishment is equally high. When a strategy designed over several months materializes into an actual acquisition and its results are reflected in the company's indicators, that's when I truly realize: 'The analysis-negotiation-coordination process has been completed as a single strategy.' That's when I feel it.
When I face these moments where things translate into actual results, I feel both the weight and the sense of fulfillment of the work simultaneously. I think the appeal of this job is that our judgments and execution are concretely connected to the company's growth.
As Handys expands into residential areas, how is your work changing?
Handys is no longer limited to accommodations and is expanding into an integrated brand that encompasses the entire lifecycle of customers' lives. We're creating a structure where accommodations through short-term rentals are connected within a single platform. That's why the scope of markets and knowledge we need to understand has become much broader. Previously, I only looked at accommodation-focused locations, demand, and profitability, but now we're also considering rental markets and regional policies. However, the essence of the work hasn't fundamentally changed. We still select good sites and review whether the profit structure actually works.
Plott isn't yet widely recognized in the market. However, through rebranding, we've created a structure that unifies accommodation–residential–facility operation services into one system, which I believe is very meaningful. In particular, Plott AMC, our comprehensive facility operation service, is a service that will build trust with partner companies. We standardize the operational elements of buildings, allowing us to predict risks and provide transparent profit and loss data based on information. This strength of reliably increasing asset value under consistent brand standards is significant.
The cases and operational data that Handys has accumulated over time, along with the experiences of successes and failures, now have a clearer direction under the name Plott.
In your view, what kind of person is a good fit for Handys, and what kind of colleague would you like to work with?
Acquisition work involves communicating with a wide range of people. You need to discuss with various partners like developers and contractors, and align understanding with internal members from diverse backgrounds—from startup backgrounds to construction company backgrounds. That's why you need to be someone who can practice the attitude of 'respect' in work situations—accepting diverse perspectives while not losing your own opinions. It would be even better if you're someone who listens to new information during the communication process and seeks learning opportunities.
Handys' horizontal communication is something many members take pride in. It helps make vertical decision-making faster and more wisely. At Handys, anyone regardless of position can freely express opinions, and sometimes we clash intensely to find better conclusions. The many problems we face don't really have a single right answer. In such situations, we express sharing what each of us knows sufficiently and actively offering opinions so that decision-makers can reach better answers as an exercise of 'responsibility.'
To summarize, I'd like to work with people who can communicate openly with various people while maintaining their own balance. I believe such people would be able to expand their own growth quickly to match Handys' growth pace.
